Traffic Advisory Toolkit to Reduce Travel Demand

Millions of visitors will be coming to the New Jersey and Philadelphia areas for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ tournament in June and July of 2026. Matches will take place in East Rutherford, New Jersey (NYNJ Stadium) and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Philadelphia Field) from June 11 through July 19. Also, “Fan Festivals” with live match broadcasts, music, and performances will be hosted in Harrison, NJ (at Sports Illustrated Stadium) and Philadelphia (at Lemon Hill) during this period.

In addition, large-scale events will be taking place in New York and Philadelphia to celebrate the United States’ 250^th birthday on and in the weeks leading up to July 4^th.

These events will generate significant vehicular traffic and public transit ridership on top of local traffic. The heaviest demand is anticipated to be between 5 hours before and 5 hours after kickoff.

While the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has been working to manage the anticipated transportation demand, you play an important role in letting your audience know about these impacts and helping to reduce local and commuter travel as much as possible during this period.
